BDT – der „Hidden Champion“ aus dem Schwarzwald bringt neue Tape Library auf den Markt.

Rottweil/Oberreichenbach. Der Spezialist für rackmounted Tape Libraries, die Firma BDT Media Automation, bringt zum ersten Mal in der Firmengeschichte eine Tape Library unter eigenem Namen in den Markt. Die Library wurde speziell für Hyperscaler, den gehobenen Mittelstand und Enterprise Unternehmen entwickelt. Damit beginnt eine neue Ära bei der Speicherung auf Band.

Die Firma BDT Media Automation bringt zum ersten Mal in der Firmengeschichte eine Tape Library unter dem eigenen Namen in den Markt. BDT ist mit einem Marktanteil von ca. 80 % der weltweit größte rackmounted Tape Library Hersteller. Bisher wurden die BDT Tape Libraries immer als OEM-Lösungen vermarktet. Mit der BDT ORION beginnt eine neue Ära. Die Library kommt mit über 1.100 Tape Stellplätzen und bis zu 24 LTO Full Height Laufwerken. Auf Wunsch kann die Library auch mit einer vorinstallierten S3-Appliance ausgestattet werden. Somit ist es möglich, Daten über die standardisierte S3-Schnittstelle auf Tape zu schreiben. Die Orion kann dadurch auf mehrere Tausend Tape Stellplätze skaliert werden. Das System ist hoch flexibel und für jeden Anwendungsfall anpassbar. Egal ob mehr Tapes oder mehr Laufwerke. Die COMBACK GmbH aus Oberreichenbach hat die Aufgabe übernommen den Channelvertrieb in EMEA für die BDT ORION aufzubauen.

Vom 18. März bis zum 20. März 2025 wird die ORION auf dem CloudFest am BDT – PoINT Stand C03 in Rust zum ersten Mal der Welt vorgestellt.

BDT – the “Hidden Champion” from the Black Forest brings a new tape library onto the market.

The specialist for rack mounted tape libraries, BDT Media Automation, is bringing a tape library onto the market under its own name for the first time in the company’s history. The library was developed specifically for hyperscalers, upper mid-sized and enterprise companies. This marks the beginning of a new era in tape storage.

BDT is the world’s largest rack mounted tape library manufacturer with a market share of approximately 80%. Until now, the BDT tape libraries have always been marketed as OEM solutions. A new era begins with the BDT ORION. The library comes with over 1,100 tape slots and up to 24 LTO full height drives. If desired, the library can also be equipped with a pre-installed S3 appliance. This makes it possible to write data to tape via the standardized S3 interface. The Orion can therefore be scaled to several thousand tape slots.
